A 24 Hour Global Team

Lets include the whole world….

The world is becoming more connected

Hey, it’s Ian from alter.is here.

Everyone is remote now, but that team feel went. Lets bring it back. Lets help people feel part of something. Lets make ‘these times’ stand for something good.

Mob programming is not the answer to all our problems, but it can help with enjoyment of development by helping to bring other people into working on the same problem, at the same time.

I want those who feel a little uncomfortable with solo remote development, to feel included. I want those remote developers who can empathise with those who feel like they have lost a lot of the human-connection in these times to help others feel like they can belong again.

You can sign up now or read more below, and sign up at the bottom of the page.

Anyone Can Be Involved

The team should have as little barriers to entry as possible. It is not necessary for everyone in a team to be an ‘expert’ in whatever language we are using. The core software development & problem solving skills are enough coding skills.

I know, finally something you can get involved with without endless code challenges! Your collaborative mindset, and basic problem solving skills, with the desire to move forward shall be enough. No heroes or ninjas, just a friendly group of people moving a problem forward for 24 hours across the world.

Let Us Run An Experiment.

Lets build on what Bob Allen, Woody Zuil and many other Software Craft communities have been doing across the globe.

Let us form mini-teams in many time zones across the world. They shall exist for just 4 hours, and be composed of at least 3 people, but maybe as many as 5.

This means each person will only need to commit to 4 hours. Then they will handover to the next timezone.

All of the teams shall work on the same problem, for the 24 hours of the experiment.

It shall be a fun experience for those involved. But also people will be pioneers. This hasn’t happend many times before, but now the timing feels right. We have a variety of technology, and human experience with it. We can share screens, we can see other humans via video, and we can have editors that allow sharing, or joint control of keyboard & mouse.

We have all the ingredients, now we just need you, and your invitations to your local community and contacts to build a team in your timezone.

If we can understand the parameters for making it work once. Then we can make it work more often. And that could lead for many commercial oppurtunities that can be more inclusive.

Are You Interested In Getting Involved?

Thank you. We would love to have you in this global team.
Simply leave us your name, timezone location, and email in the event form, and we’ll be in touch.
(We will not spam you!)

Be Part Of This Global Team

Be One Of The Pioneers.

Thank you. Danke. Merci. Gracias.
